TDPUD Biomass Project

Foundation of Biomass project in 2005

The project will provide electricity for the TDRPD Regional Park facilities and will utilize the biomass heat waster by-product for heating the main park office building.  The 15 Kw Biomax Biomass plant is funded by the CEC and becomes the property of the TDRPD in exchange for TDRPD maintaining and operating the system and providing data about its operation.

The biomass plant will require about 50 lbs of biomass material per hour, which would be supplied by the Forest Service, Park Service, TDPUD, Fire Protection District, and private landowners- all of which have a need to dispose of such waste. Calculations indicate that the plant will produce about 50,000 BTU’s of heat per hour, which is enough to heat an average 1,800 square-foot home in Truckee.  An eight-hour per day biomass plant operation will produce about $4000 in retail electricity value annually.
