Joerger Ranch PC-3 Development Call To Action

The Joerger Ranch PC-3 Development project Summary Plan is up for approval at the April 12 meeting of the Truckee Planning Commission.  This 150,000 square foot commercial project has no mention of green building considerations as laid out in Truckee's 2025 Master Plan.

Please show your support in favor of asking the Town of Truckee to require this project abide by the green building principles as laid out in both the USGBC's LEED Neighborhood Development (LEED ND) and LEED New Construction (LEED NC) for the entire PC-3 development.  Show up and voice your opinion to the Planning Commission at the April 12 meeting (6pm Town Hall Council Chambers, 2nd floor) and/or send a letter to: dhall@townoftruckee.com

Capacity Fundraising Campaign

SiGBA is in the midst of a capacity fundraising campaign.  The success and the dedication to building green in the community has been overwhelming, and SiGBA is growing with your dedication.

In short, the board has made the organizational shift to hire on a full-time executive director, purchase and/or build a membership CRM database, and develop an array of educational outreach materials aimed at promoting green building and sustainable living.   These substantial organizational measures will enable SiGBA to more effectively promote our mission within our communities while offering our members a higher level of networking and promotional opportunities to the public.

With your support, we will promote the economic, environmental and social benefits of living and building green at a time when it is needed most, today.  Send us a message on our website or call Greg Jones at 530-263-2842 for information on how you can help.

2007 Youth Services Symposium

The Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships in partnership with the Tahoe Truckee Regional Education Coalition is putting on a Youth Symposium Healthy People, Healthy Community, Healthy Planet on May 18, 2007.  The symposium's goal is to encourage research and creativity as middle and high school students think about a healthy and sustainable future in our communities.  The symposium is intended to connect students to community resources and create a venue for them to demonstrate their knowledge, ideas and suggestions for the future of their community.  Last year's symposium brought 275 students.

SiGBA is seeking willing businesses to support this symposium as part of the 'Career Walk".  Here you will engage willing middle and high school students in the art and practice of your business.  This is a great opportunity to create a summer internship, apprenticeship or job shadow program for one or more of our communities' youth.

Your participation in the symposium is free and the community benefits your business will inspire are endless.  For more information contact Greg Jones at 530-263-2842 or greg@sigba.org.

Sierra Business Council Space, Downtown Truckee

The Sierra Business Council has moved offices to Jibboom St in downtown Truckee, next to Joe Coffee.  This new location offers the SBC a unique opportunity to showcase local organizations that promote and inspire sustainability in our communities.  We are honored that the SBC has asked SiGBA to be one of the first organizations to exhibit our educational value proposition to the public.

Please stop by the office at 10116 Jibboom Street (behind commercial row) near the end of April to learn more about what SiGBA is doing within our Sierra communities.
