C & D Waste Recycling Pilot Program

The Town of Truckee, Tahoe-Truckee Sierra Disposal, CATT and SiGBA invite you to participate in a pilot construction & demolition (C & D) waste recycling program for CLEAN WOOD.   This pilot program was created in response to requests by contractors for a program geared to single family residential or small construction projects.  The success of this program will be the prelude for a larger C & D waste recycling program incorporating recyclable waste such as metal, copper, aluminum, cardboard, clean drywall, etc.  Your participation will be of great significance in shaping the future of C & D waste recycling in our community.

By participating in this program, the material capture rate for your project site goes up and your trash volume goes down.  If you want to be part of this pilot program, you may want to think about reducing your trash bin to a smaller size.  We are checking on the feasibility of participants having a "commercial can rate" in place so if you have a wood only dumpster you can have trash service too. A "commercial can rate" covers the onsite pick up of a 32 gallon trash can.

As with the existing service, you are paying for the size of the container and the pickup convenience volume doesn't matter.

Contractor participants as well as ongoing results (e.g.: tons of diverted wood from landfill, % wood diverted from standard C & D waste recycling program, etc.) will be publicized as the project moves forward.  We have extended the dates of this pilot program because we need more contractors to participate.

If you have a new or remodel job in Tahoe Donner, Gray's Crossing, Prosser, Glenshire, Northstar, Donner Lake, Olympic Heights or Sierra Meadows and wish to participate, please contact greg@sigba.org or 530.263.2842.  This program must have local support to succeed.

Specific program information:

  • Receive "Recycled % Diversion Receipt" from TTSD for LEED credits
  • No extra charge for on-site pick-up
  • Clean wood bins must be kept free of other rubbish
  • Standard bin rates apply
  • Pick-up dates are standard per TTSD schedule
  • Estimated pilot program of 4 weeks
  • On-site pick-up location changes can be made directly w/ TTSD once pilot is running

Volunteer Highlight - Tamara Perlman

Tamara Perlman, Membership Chair, has been a staunch volunteer for the Association for over a year now.  Tamara's energy and ideas have helped shape the future of SiGBA.  Tamara has been influential in our search to develop and/or purchase a new membership database software program.  Furthermore, her time and energy that went to develop our Membership Packet was an invaluable resource of which we could not have completed with out her.

In Tamara's real job, she has also been making changes in the local Real Estate market.  Tamara has been influential in spearheading the inclusion of green home characteristics on the local MLS system.  Thank you Tamara for your continued support, dedication and promotion of green building and sustainable living.
