First SiGBA Green Drinks Speaker series held this spring
Topic: CA Green Building Codes

After a slow 2013, the SiGBA-Green Drinks (Foothills) Speakers Series kicked off with a very successful evening at Summer Thymes Bakery & Deli in Grass Valley on April 24. Speaker Craig Griesbach, director of the Nevada County Building Department discussed various examples of green building methods and the California green building codes. All who signed up will receive a copy of the slide show by email. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy, please email Frans Velthuijsen (fransv@qnqconstruction.com).

The venue was very suitable for this event. Summer Thymes Bakery & Deli (summerthymes.com) recently relocated from down the street into this much larger and newly remodeled building. The owner, Amy Cooke, supports sustainable living and manages her business in this vein. The building is very energy efficient, and the food is mostly organic. For this event we asked for some light, inexpensive snacks, and we received a a delicious cheese plate, plus at no extra charge, large plates of chicken satay skewers and mushroom/cheese/peas pastries, just because they had the ingredients in-house and the chef wanted to express his creativity!

This event was also a great mixer and networking opportunity. Besides the director of the building department (always a good person to know personally when you are in the building industry), there were contractors, architects, engineers, lenders, community organizers and just interested individuals in the audience.

The next Speaker series event will be announced soon.

mPower Placer and PACE Update
Our colleagues at mPower Placer and the Sierra Business Council recently hosted a series of seminars discussing the benefits of PACE financing, which allows home owners to install energy efficiency upgrades. These upgrades can include energy efficiency retrofits and even solar panel installations, all with no upfront costs. The program is ongoing; click the link below to learn more and see if the program is right for you.
